New rail services from Barcelona to Madrid and Seville

FGC Cargo, a subsidiary of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC, Catalonia’s public railway company), in conjunction with COMSA Rail Transport, will offer two new freight transport services from Barcelona to Madrid and Seville. This is a logistical solution aimed at transport companies, logistics operators, freight forwarders or container terminals, which seeks to guarantee competitive and stable prices through annual agreements with the contracting firms.

The line that connects the Catalan capital with Madrid will have a frequency of six trains a week, while the connection with Seville will be served twice a week. Both services will depart from the El Morrot terminal located next to the port of Barcelona.

COMSA Rail Transport will provide the traction for the new services with 60 and 90 ft. intermodal wagons. FGC Cargo will be responsible for marketing a service which is expected to commence within the next few weeks.

These new freight transport services were presented on 12th September at the Cambra de Comerç de Barcelona (Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona) at a ceremony attended by COMSA EMTE’s Managing Director of Transport, Logistics and Machinery, Miquel Llevat, and the President of FGC, Enric Ticó, among others.
