COMSA Industrial renews its relationship with CERN and expects to employ up to 250 people

12/12/2018 – The European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), which has the largest particle physics laboratory in the world, has renewed its partnership with COMSA Industrial by extending the validity period of three contracts that the engineering company of COMSA Corporación is currently executing at its sites in Prevessin (France) and Meyrin (Switzerland): electrical installations, electrical maintenance and telecommunications and networks.

On the one hand, COMSA Industrial will take over the electrical installations tasks all the way to the year 2022, which include medium and low voltage as well as industrial control works. On the basis of this agreement, the company will be responsible of modernising the installations during the particle accelerator long shutdown scheduled for the years 2019 and 2020 with the aim of increasing its power to 100%. This is the second time that CERN interrupts its activity for the purpose of carrying out maintenance tasks. COMSA Industrial already managed the previous stoppage that took place between the years 2013 and 2014.

The size of this project would mean that the company will double the number of employees at CERN –currently comprised of 120 people- to 250 collaborators, especially during the technical stoppage. These job vacancies will be mainly covered by electrical engineers, team and production managers, construction managers and administrative and procurement personnel, among others.

At the same time, the engineering company has also renovated the electrical maintenance contract, which entails the preventive and corrective preservation of the installations located in CERN buildings, substations, tunnels and galleries as well as the first response support service for the networks and telecommunications of the same equipment.

The three agreements are in addition to the fibre optic network modernisation and upgrade contract for the scientific organisation, which COMSA Industrial is currently executing from 2015 to 2019.

Through these contracts, the engineering company expects to reach a revenue turnover at CERN between 20 and 25 million Euros per year until 2022.

Pablo Maset, Director of COMSA Industrial, highlights that “after more than six years being the engineering services benchmark provider for one of the most prestigious scientific institutions in the world, CERN, once again, renews its relationship with our company”. And he adds: “Having a highly specialised staff as well as our desire to meet the most stringent quality standards of our clients are essential when facing any challenge within our field of expertise and ultimately reaching relevant goals like the one we are announcing today”.
