COMSA Industrial strengthens its port and airport business in Spain

11/23/2017 – COMSA Industrial is expanding its national contracting portfolio with new projects in airport, maritime and defence business areas. With a consolidated trajectory spanning more than 25 years in the sector, the company has been awarded the provision of footbridges and auxiliary ground systems in Málaga-Costa del Sol, Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat. It will also modernize the communications of the Maritime Rescue centres of the north and northwest along with those of the Mediterranean coast.

At Malaga airport, COMSA Corporación engineering leads the TBA that is undertaking the installation of seven boarding bridges and auxiliary equipment for Terminal 2. The “turnkey” project involves the design, manufacture and implementation of the equipment, as well as civil, electrical and control works. A two-story structure will also be built for ‘remote’ boarding prior to the movement of passengers. AENA renews its confidence in COMSA after two previous contracts of this kind in Málaga, which means that the entire 26 runways of the Airport will have been built by the TBA.

The airports administrator has also awarded the engineering division a contract for the incorporation of mandatory safety equipment on the walkways of terminals T4 and T4S of Madrid-Barajas that will include cabin brake and tunnel block mechanisms and modernization of their control system. This project is in addition to the maintenance of aircraft assistance equipment, in operation since 2015, which COMSA Industrial carries out via the TBA and which encompasses the runways and auxiliary handling equipment throughout the airport.

Finally, the company has procured two contracts in T2 of Barcelona-El Prat. On the one hand, it will provide berthing guides, a device that facilitates the parking of aeroplanes and their connection to ground services, and on the other it will supply and install air conditioning equipment for aircraft to control the temperature in aeroplanes during passenger boarding and unboarding.

A decade in the service of Spanish ports
In the ports sector, for more than 10 years COMSA Industrial has been executing projects along the length of the Spanish coast that have included the integration and implementation of radiodetermination and communication systems. Among the most emblematic carried out to date include the renovation of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres of Algeciras, Palma de Mallorca, Finisterre and Vigo. The modernization of the centre at Huelva is also currently being completed.

In this way, Maritime Rescue has once again trusted in the company for the installation of new communications systems for the centres located in the North-Northwest area (Bilbao, Santander, Gijón, Finisterre, La Coruña and Vigo) and on the Mediterranean coast (Barcelona, Tarragona, Castellón, Valencia, Almería and Tarifa). Both contracts will involve the replacement of current analogue equipment with voice systems with Internet protocol (VoIP), a new technology that facilitates the sharing of resources between Centres as well as their interconnectivity, and in the event of contingencies in one location, others will be able to assume control and take up the coverage of the affected site.

International activity consolidated
In recent years, COMSA Industrial has exported its high specialization in air navigation to strategic regions in this field, such as Morocco and Poland. It currently has a consolidated presence in these countries with a growing market share.

In Morocco, the company has just completed the renewal of NDB radio navigation systems for the guidance of aircraft at the airports of Casablanca, Benslimane, Rachidia, Ifrane and Tan Tan, and has begun work to house five DVOR/DME navigation systems in Casablanca, Tangier, Rabat, Tetouan and Nador.

In addition, in Poland COMSA Industrial will replace the ILS/DME system of Poznan Airport. The work ranges from civil building projects to validation tests and the training of operators. This project is part of the Polish national program to improve the category of airport infrastructures in the country. Poznan is the seventh Polish airfield the company has worked in, following projects in Warsaw, Rzeszów, Lodz, Gdansk, Krakow and Wroclaw.

The total amount of both national and international contracts is in excess of 25 million euros.
