COMSA Industrial has completed one of the company’s largest projects in Colombia: the installation of the electromechanical and ITS (Intelligent Traffic Systems) systems in the project ‘Cruce de la Cordillera Central’, which includes the La Línea tunnel, the longest in all of Latin America (8.6 km), among its 23 tunnels.
The project connects the municipalities of Calarcá (Quindío) and Cajamarca (Tolima), and has a total length of 47 km, of which 13.4 km have come into service. This section includes La Línea Tunnel and its escape tunnel, as well as three other short tunnels, two road interchanges and two tolls.
COMSA Corporación’s Industrial Division has participated in the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the project’s electromechanical systems such as fire detection and extinction, ventilation, lighting, energy, as well as ITS, SOS posts, closed circuit TV, communications and radio communications, dynamic signalling and the Control Centre. 
The President of Colombia, Iván Duque, inaugurated last Friday the “most important work of Colombian engineering”, reminding that it is “the dream of a country”. The Colombian Government stressed that the La Línea Tunnel will boost the country’s economy and competitiveness while reducing travel time between capital cities in the southwest, such as Cali or Armenia and Bogotá.
Engineering business development
COMSA Industrial has consolidated its presence in Latin America through the development of strategic projects in the engineering sector. In Colombia, the company is carrying out the installation of ITS systems in the Sinifaná and Amagá tunnels on the Pacific Connection Highway 1, and also in the Mulatos Tunnel on Pacific 2. It is also participating in the implementation of traffic control systems in the third third of the Bogotá-Villavicencio Corridor.
