COMSA wins the 2016 Infrastructure Award

06/14/2017 – The extension of the “Vallès metro” in Sabadell carried out by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government Railways) has been awarded the prize for the best infrastructure of 2016. The award was presented yesterday during the celebration of the first edition of the “Nit de les Infraestructures” (“Infrastructure night”). COMSA and COMSA Industrial, as companies involved in the execution of the works, were present at the event and accepted the award on behalf of all the construction companies who are members of the project.

The award-winning project consists of the new 1.5 kilometre stretch between the new stations of “Can Feu-Gracia” and “Plaza Mayor”, which began operations on 12 September and which replace the old stations of “Sabadell Estación” and “Sabadell Rambla”, respectively.

The jury gave special emphasis to the fact that the infrastructure was seen as a good example of demand-driven development as well as offering a positive cost-benefit ratio. In addition, the work has incorporated new technologies and trends in both the initial concept and also in the design, construction and maintenance of the infrastructure.

The prize is subdivided into four categories, each of these corresponding to a different process within a public project of this importance: an award for the promoter, for the designer, for the construction company and another award for the management of the work. José Miarnau, CEO of COMSA Corporación, received the award on behalf of all the companies that have participated in the construction of the infrastructure from the President of the Cambra Oficial de Contractistes d’Obres de Catalunya (Official Catalan Chamber of Contractors) (CCOC), Joaquim Llansó.

Together with the work promoted by FGC in Sabadell, two other infrastructure projects also achieved recognition as finalists: line 9 of the Barcelona metro, the stretch between the “Zona Universitaria” and its extension to terminal T1 of Barcelona airport, and the covering and urbanisation of the track through the neighbourhood of Sants, known as the “Jardines de la Rambla de Sants” (“Gardens of the Rambla de Sants”). COMSA and COMSA Industrial have also participated in the construction of these projects. The award ceremony, which took place yesterday under the auspices of the Foment del Treball Nacional (the principal confederation of Catalan businesses) was presided over by the Minister of Territory and Sustainability of the Catalan Regional Government, Josep Rull, who was accompanied by the president of the Catalan Advisory Council for Infrastructure, Francisco Gutiérrez.
