Transparent photovoltaic cells to improve the energy efficiency of buildings

COMSA EMTE is collaborating with the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) on a new project to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. The research team is developing new semitransparent photovoltaic cells that, integrated into the window glass, allow solar energy to be captured and converted into electricity, maintaining the transparency of windows and partitions.

COMSA EMTE is in particular contributing its experience in the field of construction and advanced facilities in buildings. Its collaboration focuses on the installation of new photovoltaic modules and their subsequent electrical integration and energy management systems.

Photovoltaic cells developed by researchers are organic and are lighter and more flexible than those made of silicon, the material commonly used for the composition of the solar panels. Project results represent a step forward so that buildings can generate energy to supply themselves in a sustainable and economic form.
