Aigües de Catalunya develops a system to recharge mobile phones using the water supply network

Aigües de Catalunya, the COMSA EMTE group company working in the environment business area, in conjunction with the Altafulla Town Council (Tarragona), is promoting a system for recharging electronic devices using renewable energy derived from the water supply network. The project, a pioneering development in Spain, will begin operating in a few weeks in the Tarragona municipality.

The system, which is fed by the electricity generated by the pressure in the water distribution network, will be available to the public for the free recharging of their devices through a station located on the town’s seafront promenade. It will also incorporate free Wi-Fi access for part of the beach of Altafulla. It is estimated that the project will generate over 1,000 kilowatts of ‘green’ energy annually.

In addition to recharging mobile phones and tablets, it is expected that the system will include other functions in the future, such as the charging of electric vehicles or the partial supply of electricity for public lighting.
