Trakcja PRKiI and Kauno Tiltai, subsidiaries of the construction company COMSA in Poland and Lithuania, respectively, have been awarded new railway and road contracts totalling 187 million euros, thus consolidating their position as benchmark companies in the development of new infrastructures in northern Europe and the improvement of its connections with the rest of the continent.
These decisions strengthen the upward trend of both companies, which in the first eight months of 2015 have registered 196 million euros of contracting, compared to 57 million registered during the same period in 2014. In the first half of this year, Trakcja PRKiI and Kauno Tiltai increased their EBITDA by 10%, doubling the net result obtained in the first six months of 2014 and reducing debt by 46%.
In Poland, the public manager of the railway network, PKP Polish State Railways, has awarded Trakcja PRKiI the renewal of the Okecie – Czachówek line, for a value of 91 million euros. The works comprise the renovation of 27 kilometres of track, 75 kilometres of catenary, 13 railway crossings and the stations of Warszawa Okecie, Piaseczno and Czachówek Poludniowy. Similarly, the contract will include the construction of ten platforms and pedestrian crossings, seven viaducts, four railway bridges and various duct, drainage and energy systems.
With broad experience in the sector, Trakcja PRKiI has become one of the most important construction companies in the development of the railway infrastructures of the country in recent years. It is currently undertaking other important contracts for the improvement of the Polish railway network, including the modernisation of the 110-kilometre Wroclaw – Skokowa line, and of the Warsaw Gdansk station.
Trans-European Transport Network
Furthermore, Kauno Tiltai has been awarded two significant road contracts in Lithuania as part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), a European Union initiative for the development of priority infrastructures that provide the transportation of people and goods on the continent.
The company will build the Vilnius west bypass, stretching 5.4 kilometres, which will have six lanes for vehicles and a pedestrian viaduct. Various roundabouts and access roads will also be built, as well as 20 kilometres of catenary and several treatment plants. The contract, awarded by the town council of the capital, is valued at 64 million euros.
Similarly, the Ministry of Communications of the country, through the Lithuanian Administration of Roads, has entrusted Kauno Tiltai to expand the E67 road, which connects the cities of Kaunas and Marijampole. It is a stretch of 61 kilometres, in which the company will undertake works to widen the road, reconstruct junctions and build pedestrian overpasses, among other aspects, for a value of 32 million euros. All these activities are intended to improve the safety of the road, which is part of the Motorway of the Baltic Sea, a corridor forming part of the TEN-T project that passes through Poland and Baltic countries.
