Opening of Rail Baltica works in Marijampole (Lithuania)

On 27 September railway work carried out by Trakcja and Kauno was officially opened in the town of Marijampole (Lithuania), part of Rail Baltica, the European Union project to improve rail connections from Finland, the Baltic States and Poland with the rest of Europe.

The event was chaired by the Director General of Railway Infrastructure of Lithuania, Albinas Ragauskis, and was attended by various business representatives, including Miquel Llevat, Trakcja supervisory board member, Roman Przybyl, CEO of Trakcja, and Nerijus Eeidukevicius, president of Kauno.

Altogether, Trakcja and Kauno will modernize 43 kilometres of the Marijampole-Sestokai railway line, establishing the European gauge that will coexist with the current Russian gauge on the Lithuanian network. The work is valued at 85 million euros and includes the renovation of two sections, the construction of an additional track and modernization of stations and their services, among other activities.
