EMTE is strengthening its international activities with two contracts to implement electricity projects in Cape Verde and Mexico, with a total value of 25 million euros. These awards represent COMSA EMTE’s first venture in Africa and its entry into the Mexican renewables market.
The electricity utility in the Republic of Cape Verde (Electra) has awarded EMTE a contract to expand the power grids on the islands of Santo Antão, Fogo, São Nicolau and Boavista, which together represent 20% of the country’s population. The contract contemplates the construction of medium- and low-voltage power lines and the construction and enlargement of transformer stations, including the procurement and transportation of the materials to the four islands, the civil engineering work, equipment assembly and installation of power as well as the commissioning of the facilities. The project is due to be executed over a period of 15 months and will be carried out as part of a consortium with the Sampol company.
In parallel, alongside Iberdrola, EMTE will be carrying out electrical work on a Gamesa wind-power farm in Mexico, representing the company’s first contract for the renewable energy sector in this Central American country. The facility, producing 234 MW, is located in the city of Juchitán de Zaragoza, in Oaxaca state.
The company will specifically be in charge of civil engineering and electrical work for the medium-voltage collector circuits, the optical fibre, the grounding networks and the medium-voltage cells of the wind turbines. This contract strengthens the Group’s presence in Mexico’s electricity business, where it is engaged in several projects for the Federal Electricity Commission and Pemex.
