COMSA shares its topographic experience with students from the UPC

On November 28 COMSA participated in a series of conferences in Barcelona organized by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in order to inform students about the application of methodologies and new technologies in actual projects.

The Topography coordinator in the Rail Infrastructure business, Carlos Plancho, shared a successful case with attendees that was introduced by the company in work on the Barcelona Metro between 2007 and 2010: kinematic surveying to gather topographic information about tunnels.

As Plancho noted, data collection was performed by establishing the vehicle with the measurement system over a railway maintenance platform, a solution that, among other advantages, makes it possible to quickly obtain the required information without physical contact and, therefore, minimizes the risk of work-related accidents. The commitment to this working methodology resulted in a significant improvement in the project’s safety, quality and productivity.
