Adasa will install the early warning system of São Tomé and Príncipe

Adasa, specialised company in water and environment technology of the COMSA EMTE group, has awarded with the supply of the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe’s early warning system.

Specifically, the company will oversee the installation of 30 automatic meteorological and hydrological stations. In this way, the fishing industry will have the necessary climate data to schedule its activity and, at the same time, the government will be able to improve the prevention of natural disasters and manage them more efficiently.

Located in the gulf of Guinea about 250 kilometres from the coast of Gabon, its tempestuous climate of dense fog and strong winds conditions fishing activity, the main economic sector of the country. Additionally, sudden hydro-meteorological changes, such as torrential rain and floods, expose the rural population of the coastline to natural hazards.

The information obtained from the early warning system can be combined with socio-economic and environmental data to improve the decision-making process. Following on from this, the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe plans to work over the coming years to integrate the meteorological and climate data into the national policies and into the town and country planning.
